Important update about Girls’ Brigade Scotland

Girls' Brigade Press Release

Today, 29th May 2026, Girls’ Brigade England & Wales and Girls’ Brigade Scotland, have
jointly announced that from next year, their Girls’ Brigade members will be welcomed
into the newly formed Girls’ Brigade Great Britain.

Over the coming year, Girls’ Brigade Scotland will wind down as an independent charity,
and it will work with Girls’ Brigade England and Wales as they evolve into the
organisation that will represent the whole of Great Britain. Girls’ Brigade Scotland will
cease operation in May 2027, and members will be welcomed across the single
organisation serving the whole of Great Britain from June.

Judith Davey-Cole, Chief Executive of Girls’ Brigade England & Wales, said:
“At a time where many young people spend a significant amount of time online, at Girls’
Brigade we are dedicated to ensuring the future sustainability of the movement in Great
Britain. Like many membership organisations for children and young people,
membership numbers have shifted in the digital age, and our priority is making sure we
have a national organisation that is sustainable and ready for the future. By working
together to plan Girls’ Brigade across Great Britain over the coming year, we can create
the best possible environment for girls and young women to join us.

We are unique as an organisation as we hold proud Christian values, and this is
something that we want to protect and develop with our network. We also see the
establishment of Girls’ Brigade right across Great Britain as an opportunity to welcome
and work together with others, new and familiar, in future collaborations and
partnerships.”

Caroline Goodfellow, Chief Executive of the Girls’ Brigade Scotland, said:
“While this is a time of great change, as we move away from having a separate
organisation in Scotland to a new model, our priority is the fantastic Girls’ Brigade
members who need a thriving community at national level to support their local groups.
Girls’ Brigade will continue in Scotland as part of the umbrella of Great Britain,
alongside their fellow members in England and Wales. We have over 4000 Girls’ Brigade
members in Scotland, who will be welcomed to join the new organisation. And while
there is a bright future ahead, we also recognise this is the end of an era in Scotland,
and there will local celebrations and thanksgiving for the organisation as Girls’ Brigade
Scotland comes to an end as a separate charity.”

Leaders have already been advised of the situation to explain in full the changes which
are to come, including future changes to branding and a timeline for next steps.
