Case Study: Air Cadets Uncover Local Aviation Heritage in the Cheviot Hills
Air Cadets from multiple squadrons in Northumberland and Durham have been taking part in a heritage project exploring historic aircraft crash sites in the Cheviot Hills. Each squadron selected specific locations to research and visit, allowing cadets to experience the sites first-hand and better understand the events that took place there.
During their research, the cadets uncovered powerful stories of local heroes, including a dog who ran to the aid of crash survivors and was later awarded a medal for bravery. They have also been gathering oral histories from people connected to the crashes, both in England and overseas, helping to preserve these important memories for future generations.
