Achieving your Duke of Edinburgh's Award Through Heritage

Looking to complete your Duke of Edinburgh’s Award while exploring heritage in a meaningful way? We created a resource to support both groups and individuals in achieving their award through heritage-focused activities. Whether it’s discovering local history, taking part in conservation projects, or engaging with cultural traditions, these opportunities make it easier to build skills, give back to your community, and connect with the past, all while working towards your DofE.

Two exciting opportunities from English Heritage:

Their latest round of Reverberate funding is open to creative heritage projects for 11-25-year-olds.
English Heritage also offer free visits for uniformed youth groups to embark on an exploration of their sites and stories. Set up an account on their new booking portal to begin organising a visit.

St John Ambulance

Youth Open Day

Last year, SJA Cadets, Badgers and volunteers attended the Youth Open Day at the Museum of the Order of St John. From a “Uniform Through the Ages” catwalk and heritage-themed escape rooms, to VR experiences exploring the church before it was bombed, most activities were designed and delivered by young people, for young people. It was a day of heritage discovery and connection. 6 groups from across the country received support for their travel costs and their unit-based heritage research, thanks to microgrants from YUF’s Heritage Youth Partnership.

We’re thrilled to have worked with Historic Houses to launch their HYP map, which shows heritage venues with opportunities for uniformed youth groups near you.
